

Uttam Kumar Bhattacharya, Associate Professor of Economics
He received his Ph.D. in Economics on 'The Development of Capital
Goods Industry in India with special reference to Indian Machine
Tools' from the University of Calcutta. He has also completed
the following academic courses: Indian Patent System from the
Indian Patent Office; History and Planning of Science from The
Asiatic Society, Kolkata; Basic Concept on Gandhian Thought from
the Centre for Gandhian Studies, Gandhi Memorial Committee; Survey
Research Methodology from the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI),
Kolkata; Research Training Programme from the Centre for Studies
in Social Sciences Calcutta (CSSSC) and Computer Application in
Social Science from the Centre for Social Studies (CSS), Surat,
Gujarat.
His research papers on Indian Patents Act, Indian machine tool industry, industry - research institutions linkages, foreign collaboration in Indian industries, small scale industry, industrial districts, decentralized planning and participation have been published in books and journals including the Economic and Political Weekly. He has served as Guest Lecturer in the Department of Economics, Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal and Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. At present he is working at the IDSK on Indian industrial development, disinvestment policies, decentralised planning ,Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Indian research and development. He is also engaged in editing a book on Development of Capital Goods in India.
His areas of research are industrial development, economic history, money and banking.
