He stood first class first in Anthropology from Vidyasagar University , West Bengal. As UGC-NET Fellow, he completed his Ph.D. thesis on Types and Trends of Consanguinity and Inbreeding among Telugu- speaking Populations of Kharagpur, West Bengal, and some biological Consequences. He was a guest teacher in the Post Graduate Department of Anthropology at Vidyasagar University, West Bengal. He also worked as Protected Area Sociologist under India Eco-development Project sponsored by the World Bank and Global Environment Facility at Buxa Tiger Reserve (BTR), West Bengal, for five years.

He has written articles in academic journals on Family Formation, Sex ratio, Anthropometry, Types and Trends of Consanguinity, Joint Forest Management. He has also prepared reports on eco-development issues of BTR, West Bengal.

At IDSK, he is researching on issues relating to Women's Self Help Groups. His present focus is on Eco-development in Reserve Forests and Consanguinity effect on fertility , mortality , anthropometric traits and child's growth.

His areas of interest are Micro-credits, Women's Empowerment, Health and Nutrition, Forestry and Environment.

Sankalpa Bhattacharjee, Research Fellow            sankalpa.b@gmail.com

Sankalpa Bhattacharjee graduated in Economics from Hooghly Mohsin College, West Bengal, and obtained his M.Sc from the University of Burdwan. His area of specialisation is Econometrics and his dissertation for the M. Phil programme in Economics from The University of Calcutta focussed on the disinvestment of public sector units in India. He has taught in Chandernagore Government College, West Bengal in part-time capacity.

At IDSK Sankalpa is researching on the problems and prospects of the software industry in West Bengal. His other areas of interest include Development Economics and Environmental Economics.

 

 

 

Nirmalamati Maisnam, Research Fellow

Nirmalamati Maisnam is an M.A. in Political Science(a first class first) from Manipur University; and has qualified in the U.G.C.-NET. She was also educated at the Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls'Public School, Jaipur and Jadavpur University, Kolkata.

Her areas of specialization are Regional Studies of North-East India with reference to Manipur and Gandhian Thought.

At IDSK, she is researching on Democratic Decentralisation and Rural Development in Manipur. She is looking specifically into the post-73rd Constitutional Amendment scenario in Manipur valley.

Her other areas of interest are the Political Economy of International Relations, and of India.

Saheli Roychowdhury, Research Fellow

Saheli Roychowdhury graduated with first class honours in Political Science from Presidency College, Kolkata , and stood first class first in the same subject in M.A. from the University of Calcutta. She has specialised in Research Methodology. Subsequently she taught in Sivanath Shastri College, Shri Shikshayatan College and Gokhale College, Kolkata in part-time capacity.

At IDSK, Saheli is engaged in doctoral research on urban Bengali middle class response to globalisation-driven economic liberalisation and to neo-imperial designs. She has chosen the middle / lower middle class salaried employees in the service sector whose standard of living and quality of life are likely to be adversely affected and their political radicalism compromised due to changes in economic regime at the national level.

Anusri Pal completed her M.Sc in Economics from the University of Calcutta. Her areas of specialisation are Agricultural Economics and Development Economics. She did her M.Phil from the University of Burdwan. Her M.Phil dissertation was on 'A Study On The Factor Productivity and Factor Substitutability of Sugar Industry in India during 1980-2000'. She was a guest lecturer in economics at New Alipore College and Vidyanagar College, West Bengal.

At IDSK, she is researching on the problems and prospects of jute industry in eastern India. She is trying to find ways and means which could be instrumental in revitalising the industry.

Her other area of interest is Environmental Economics.
